Learning specialist / Educational psychologist

40 hrs/week, 39 weeks/year


£25,700 gross per annum for 39 weeks/year

Start: immediately

Overview

You will be responsible for supporting students in the School’s Specific Learning Differences (SLD) programme which provides instruction in learning strategies and builds independence in students with diagnosed learning differences. The successful candidate will also manage the PSHE curriculum and act as one of the school's designated safeguarding leaders.

You will report to the Head of Student Wellbeing and Learning Support Service and work 3 days per week for 39 weeks of the academic year. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage the PSHE curriculum
  • Manage and share the school "Special Needs Register" containing cognitive and learning support; emotional support; Gifted and Talented student support and medical and dietary needs;
  • Meet regularly with teaching teams and provide general academic support for students across primary and secondary;
  • In collaboration with parents, teachers and students, develop and share an Annual Individualized Education Plan (AIEP)/PAP explaining specific academic goals and objectives for the academic year. Udate PAP in light of new findings and arrange and attend PAP meetings;
  • Teach specific learning strategies using mainstream curriculum material, individualised for a particular learning profile.;
  • Conduct informal assessments and help each student understand and articulate his/her learning style and needs.;
  • Show sensitivity to learning differences and promote learning diversity in a positive way;
  • Communicate regularly with parents about progress;
  • Help to identify external support services such as counseling, tutoring, speech and language therapy where necessary;
  • Share information regarding casework with the pastoral team;
  • Present information and provide training and education about SLD issues and the SLD programme to faculty and parents; 
  • Support continuity of the students’ educational experience to allow smooth transition from/to further education system.;
  • Act as one of the school's designated safeguarding leaders (DSL).

Education & Experience Required

  • Native-level English speaker, ideally fluent in French;
  • Master of Education: Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties or equivalent;
  • Postgraduate training that includes the study of SLD, child/adolescent psychology and/or special education;
  • Experience as a Learning Specialist in a similar school setting working with students with mild to moderate Specific Learning Differences;
  • Experience with safeguarding procedures and local authorities involved;
  • Experience with differentiating instruction to meet the learning needs of all students;
  • Strong presentation skills;
  • Outstanding collaborative skills and a desire to work in a team-focused environment;
  • Commitment to and facility with integration of technology in the service of student learning;
  • Willingness to contribute to school life;
  • Ability to support and nurture the school-home partnership.

Desirable qualifications/experience 

  • PGCE or equivalent;
  • Experience as an art therapist;
  • Teaching experience in an international environment;
  • Knowledge and understanding of international and/or independent school communities .
